Frequency is only meaningful relative to your own baseline. A change is more informative than a number.
Worth assessing
- More than about eight daytime voids
- Waking more than once at night to pass urine
- Urgency you cannot defer, or leakage on the way
- Burning without a positive culture
- Blood in the urine, even once, even painless
What the first consultation involves
History, examination, a urine test, a three-day bladder diary and a post-void ultrasound where indicated. You should leave knowing what is being ruled out and why.
On repeat antibiotics
Two culture-proven infections in six months, or three in a year, is recurrent infection — it should be investigated, not simply treated again.
